Press Release

Maplewood, NJ, November 16, 2006—On Wednesday, November 8, 2006, over 500 people gathered at the Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township, New Jersey, to attend the annual Women’s Fund of New Jersey (WFNJ) Fall Gala honoring Women of Influence in Communications. Among the honorees was Maggie Helmig, President of the Eden Communications Group. Maggie was 1 of 20 women honored by the WFNJ for their contributions in influencing positive change in people’s lives and communities.

The Women’s Fund of New Jersey is a comprehensive and innovative fundraising source for organizations dedicated to improving the lives of women. The fund supports 17 statewide organizations, including the New Jersey Coalition of Women and Disabilities, New Jersey Women and AIDS Network, South Jersey Breast Cancer Coalition, and Horizon Health Center. WFNJ reaches over 220,000 individuals and their families each year.

Maggie was in prestigious company, along with notable news anchors, correspondents, publishers, and other communications specialists. She was introduced by Ivette Mendez, an honorary chair of the evening, who described Maggie as “using her communication experience to make a difference in physician/patient education.” Ms Mendez cited the Patient Navigation in Cancer Care program as one of the accomplishments Maggie is most proud of and a system she is convinced can be transferable to many other diseases in changing the life of patients. The Eden Communications Group developed Patient Navigation in Cancer Care: Guiding Patients to Quality Outcomes to assist Pfizer Inc. in ensuring that all patients receive timely diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The program was developed in conjunction with Harold Freeman, MD, the originator of the concept and past president of the American Cancer Society, along with the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS). The purpose is to provide the necessary tools and information to health care organizations so they can employ “navigators” to actively guide patients through the cancer care continuum—from suspicious finding to proper diagnosis, then on to treatment if necessary.

Maggie was surrounded by family and colleagues, including several members of Eden’s and Adelphi’s senior management teams. We congratulate her on this great honor.
